On my first day in Auckland, Lara and I woke up relaxed (fortunately without jet lag) and prepared a small breakfast in the hostel kitchen. It was a very hot day (about 28°C), which is not unusual at this time of year. Afterwards, we went to the city center and visited the Sky Tower (TV tower). Even though there are probably better things to do on the other side of the world, we went to a cool clothing store on Queen Street shortly afterwards. As we walked on the hot streets of Auckland, we quickly got warm, so we bought an iced coffee and headed towards the harbor. There were a few lounge chairs where we could sunbathe and enjoy the view. A little further on, we could swim directly in the harbor, which is really great with the clear turquoise water.

After a short stop at the hostel, we made our way to Mount Eden. This mountain, like One Tree Hill, is part of an inactive volcanic field that is directly under Auckland. From up there, we had a great view of the city and its surroundings, where, by the way, one third of the entire New Zealand population lives. By evening, we were a bit tired, so we joined the others from the hostel and watched a movie.
