Day #1 & #2: Invercargill - Sunday, February 4, 2018
Together with Ann-Kathrin (29, from Kaevla- near Düsseldorf) I will travel together for the next two weeks.
Stop 1: Invercargill / Bluff
Our first stop is Invercargill - in the south of the South Island. However, the weather has let us down quite a bit, it's raining and freezing (about 13 degrees). Quite a temperature drop compared to the last few weeks, when temperatures sometimes reached up to 40 degrees. So we got to know the wet and windy summer in New Zealand.
Since we 'actually' wanted to take the ferry to Stewart Island the next day, we drove directly to Bluff - the southernmost place on the South Island - from there the ship crossed to the island. Unfortunately, rain was also forecast for the next day, so we decided not to buy the ticket for the ship.
Here we could stay with Stu (originally from Scotland), whom we found through Couchsurfing.
Day 2: Invercargill
Due to the bad weather, we relaxed in the house all day - planned our route and cooked Thai curry in the evening. Stu brought beer from the brewery.
Then we went to an Irish pub, which closed at 9 p.m., so we were back faster than expected. Then we just went to bed and watched a series on Netflix.
