I have always enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. After a long time in Munich, I decided to quit my old job and embark on a new adventure. My goal was to see more of the world and meet new people.
2018 was finally the year: The adventure of 'Working on a Cruise Ship' could begin.
Day 1: Basics
What does it mean to be a sailor? How is an AIDA ship structured? Fire zones, fire doors, water-tight doors, starboard, port, etc.
Day 2: Crowd Management
What does it mean to deal with a large crowd in case of emergency? What types of people are there (panic, fear, calm, etc.) What is my role on the ship in my position? One thing is certain: Everyone has a fixed task on board in a fixed team.
Day 3: Firefighting on board
Today, everything revolved around fire. How does fire start? What safety functions are there on board? How do I extinguish different types of fires... Besides a lot of theory, there was also practice. :-) I can tell you, it was really fun to play firefighter for a day.
Day 4: Survival training in water
In the nearby swimming pool, we first had to put on our swimwear and wear a nice overall. We jumped from the 3-meter diving board with clothes and life jackets, and then paddled a bit in the water. Afterwards, we were shown how we can survive as a group in the open sea. Our life raft also played an important role here.
Day 5: Lots of tests :-)
After the training, we received our certificates and our sailor ID card.
So, let's get started.
