Sunday market in Bac Ha

During our northern trip, there was another little highlight that we are dedicating a separate blog post to because of the many photos. One Sunday morning, we had the opportunity to visit a very large market for the products of the mountain people living in the north. We left very early - and it was worth it. Not that the market was crowded with tourists (it is too far off the beaten path and there is little to buy for the "westerner" anyway), but in the early hours, it is simply the busiest. People come with a variety of handmade products from the surrounding regions and there is a brisk trade. All imaginable types of vegetables are offered, but also spices, smithing products, clothing, self-distilled schnapps in 30-liter plastic canisters, and much more. But a large part of the market is also occupied by meat products and live animals. And yes, it breaks your heart when you see the little puppies that will probably end up in the pot sooner or later. Well, and the pigs, goats, cows, and chickens are not handled with kid gloves either. But it is interesting nevertheless. The many small side scenes are also exciting. While getting a haircut, the latest gossip is exchanged, or the older woman from the mountains with her traditional clothing buys a newer smartphone before the return journey 😊 Anyway, we had a very interesting day with many impressions, experiences, and photos.
