From Ayutthaya, we took the night train to Chiang Mai, which was very luxurious this time!
We arrived in the morning and we were completely exhausted, everything was too tiring... so we quickly went to a hostel where Lea had stayed with her mom two years ago, which is really funny to be back at the same place.
The next day, we visited a temple on a mountain, which was really cool, but we couldn't see the view because of too many clouds.
We booked a two-day jungle tour, which was really super cool. Our group was very nice and we hiked all day past waterfalls, fields, oxen, and Karen villages. In the evening, we arrived at a small village with typical bamboo huts, where we also slept. We cooked a delicious curry together with our guide Lang and exchanged stories. We drank the self-brewed rice wine, which supposedly had only 15% alcohol, but I'm sure you could have lit it on fire, it was so strong 😅
After a hearty breakfast the next day, we continued our journey. In the evening, we returned to Chiang Mai with a typical open taxi after a 2-hour ride. The tour was really worth it, especially because we met so many nice people!
Two days later, we went to an elephant rescue camp. Initially, we wanted to cancel it because we were afraid that it would be bad for the elephants and we didn't want to support that. However, we wouldn't have gotten our money back, so we decided to go. We were actually alone with the owner, which was really great because we bombarded him with questions about the elephants and their keeping. We could tell that they were doing well, which reassured us! We fed them first, and they were really greedy. If you didn't have a banana in your hand for a second, they would already be rummaging around in the pocket with the bananas.
And then we continued to Chiang Dao.
