After enjoying a sensational Greek breakfast, everything simply delicious-no Continental breakfast-, we were fortunate enough to ignore the weather app. 60% chance of rain, but not in Greece. Okay, wearing shorts, sneakers, and a t-shirt might be frowned upon - rightly so, 'Safety First', but it's just hot 🥵 - maybe the motorcycle will save us.
Off on the road, beautiful scenery and lots of nice curves. At first, we trust our route app, no secret that can't last. In the interest of a nice route and the view of the mountains from above, we take a left turn. A bit of dirt road at the beginning doesn't bother us at first, but it stretches on and the Ducati Super Sport riders wonder what's going on here? Nina shows courage and apparently ignores the fact that she has only had her license for four months. The average speed decreases and the horizon reveals the beautiful mountains, and the gravel road seems to never end. Even the man in the t-shirt and slippers celebrates the route with his XT and thinks, 'how cool is that'. But even he knows, this is not for 'street motorcycles'.
As a result, on a hill with a view of the endless dirt road, observed only by a few lonely goats who feel at home here, the decision is made, one will go ahead and have a look...
Wrong clothes, but hey, an XT. Drive ahead, take a look, come back, turn around, not making the way back downhill any easier.
Back on the road, everything is going according to plan. It's like we're already there. On a beautiful road with no oncoming traffic. The secret appears behind the last curve: the road ends in a sand dune. Not the Gobi, but a construction site. The XT has to step in again - drive ahead, explore, and soon believe, without any further knowledge of the language, in the words of a Greek construction worker that there is another road somewhere back there (it would be stupid to turn around). Our Greek friend Aphro has to confirm if all of this is true, gives the go-ahead, and off we go... we don't want to hide the fact that all the reserve lights on the motorcycles are on. Through the construction site, which was really worth it - the valley afterwards is so beautiful. However, still no gas station! Shift early, drive energy-efficiently, and hope. The gas station 12 km before the destination brings relief and a typical Greek cold frappé.
So we continue towards our destination, a monument of rocks where the monasteries of Meteora overlook the vast green valley.
Exhausted, we reach our hotel at the foot of the rocks. The view is a dream. We look forward to a cold shower and a Greek salad and wine from the region. Happy and satisfied, we say yia mas and see you tomorrow. P.S.: the motorcycles are parked under a fig tree, is that good?
