Today I visited the Knysna Elephant Park. This park is also a sanctuary for elephants that are sick or not kept properly. There are a total of ten elephants in the park. Before the tour, you have to buy a feeding bucket for the elephants. Then we went into the park on a tractor with a trailer. The first stop is the feeding. As soon as you get off the tractor and wait with the bucket, the elephants come on their own and wait for the food. During the whole time, there are many workers who make sure that you don't get too close to the elephants and that the elephants don't get too close to us. After the feeding, you walk closer to an elephant in a group of five. A worker then tells us a lot about the elephants and we can pet them. It's very impressive to stand 20cm next to such a big animal! And it's not even fully grown yet...
The park is huge and very well done! The elephants have a lot of space and are never forced to do anything. But of course, they are happy to come voluntarily for the tourist feeding ;-).
When I got back home, I went to the beach for a while. But in the evening it got quite cold. Now you can really feel that it's autumn here. As soon as the sun is gone, you have to put on a jacket. It's often very windy too. It's fascinating to see how you can notice the change of seasons within these 5 weeks that I've been here.
