24.03.2023 from Yuraygir NP to Ballina
Early in the morning it is raining heavily, our chairs are full of water and the camp ground has deep puddles. We pack up and drive to Lake Arragan, not a lake but a great bathing bay and many kangaroos, peacefully resting in the grass. They need rest after their first meal of the day.
We continue along the coast just a few kilometers to Ballina, a modern seaside resort. First, we secure a pitch and pay 54 AUD. Yes, we have arrived in the expensive coastal towns again.
Laundry needs to be done, we don't want to get on the plane with sweaty clothes. We have to walk a bit to go swimming in the sea, the water is wonderful, the waves are strong and today we also have a very strong cross current. The people here are very talkative, everyone we meet has something to say. Did you enjoy swimming? Nice weather today, isn't it? and so on. We don't understand everyone.
Today, people who drive old caravans meet at the campsite, they know each other, they are happy and they laugh.
We sizzle a salmon fillet and enjoy the mild evening.
Our neighbor is preparing his pitch, he says there will be rain tonight.
