Akureyri, finally back on mainland! The night was good, also long thanks to the time difference. Bettina was also up and about and came to have breakfast with us. We were already very early in the fjord, so the sea was very calm. We were also ahead of schedule by a few minutes. The ship lost sight of us pretty quickly, so a whale watching tour was waiting for us. The boat was waiting just a few meters from the ship. Before that, we had to participate in a survival exercise. Actually not bad because it was nice and warm, but we had to wear long underwear for that... The weather is perfect, blue sky over the fjord, the clouds gathering around the peaks. The route is actually in the direction where the ship came from, as Akureyri is at the end of the fjord. It didn't take long and we saw the first whale. They are all humpback whales, about 12-15 meters long, and they come into the fjord to look for food. We were able to observe the group as they surfaced, took a breath of air, and then dived again. Time flew by and then we were already back. We got out of our suits and went to find something to eat in the "city". We found a cozy restaurant and both had Icelandic salmon with salad and one with flatbread, it was delicious. Then we strolled through the city and bought the obligatory souvenirs and did some shopping. Then the ship was waiting for us.
