On Saturday, 10.12.2016, my husband and I are taking a trip to the island of Gulangyu. It is located across from Xiamen and is one of the many attractions when visiting Xiamen.
It is a beautiful day and we take the ferry for about 5 minutes to the island.
During our last visit to the island, we spent more time in the inner area, exploring the old houses and winding alleys.
It was very interesting because there were all kinds of homemade things available for purchase on the paths. Also, of course, all kinds of food. Today, we will walk along the waterfront and explore there.
Gulangyu Island is part of the Siming District of Xiamen, a provincial city in Fujian Province, China.
The size of the island is just under 2 square kilometers.

The island is a popular location for wedding photoshoots. We see many couples getting their photos taken here, either on the beach or at a beautiful romantic spot on the island.
We continue walking along a wooden boardwalk that runs along the beach. It is already December, and we can stroll along the beach without a jacket, which is simply wonderful.
We come to a small staircase that leads to a beach area on the island. Here, we take a short break and enjoy the view. The pictures only capture a small part of the impression you get here. It is simply incredibly beautiful.
We walk along the sea for a while and then continue on the footpath. From here, we have a direct view of the opposite island of Xiamen, with the two relatively new hotel buildings called "Conrads" in Xiamen.
To fully take in everything, we sit by the side of the path for a while and look out at the sea and the surroundings.
Today is Saturday and there are quite a few people on the island. Actually, the best time to visit Gulangyu Island is on a weekday.
But since my husband has to work during the week, we have thrown ourselves into the hustle and bustle on the weekend. We have the advantage of being able to take the ferry for locals.
All other visitors have to use the ferry on the other side of the island. This means that the crossing to Gulangyu takes longer for them.
After finishing our walk along the shore of the island, it's time to start heading back towards the ferry.
We're starting to get a bit hungry and decide to eat something small. There are a lot of options available here.
There are various fried or sweet snacks available at the street stalls. We are having a hard time deciding.
Now we have been walking from food stand to food stand for half an hour, but we still can't really decide what we want to eat.
In the end, we take the ferry back to Xiamen. The sun is slowly setting.
We enjoy the last minutes on the island. It was a very beautiful and sunny day.
