After everyone worked at full speed the day before and blocked the streets, we were initially amazed that it was not all for the 4th of July. Later we found out that all the preparations were for a food festival that will take place in a few days. After the disappointment that there is no parade, we took a detour back to the beach. There, in the blistering heat, we jumped into the ice-cold water and took a long nap. When we woke up, we saw huge crowds of people heading to the Navy Pier. Upon arrival, we decided to avoid the crowds and watch the fireworks on the promenade amidst equally large crowds. No matter where we were, there were people everywhere. The decision to watch the fireworks on the promenade turned out to be right when it started pouring rain and thundering immediately after the fireworks.
