DAY 6 ANTIGUA

365 days, 365 beaches! But we don't have that much time......! The green hilly island, like so many other islands here, was discovered by C. Columbus in 1493! Only in 1981 did the 23 km by 18 km holiday island become independent! The capital is St. John's, (20,000 inhabitants) where the cruise ships dock.

Plan: Beaches & a tour with an e-scooter (despite driving on the left)!

During breakfast, we noticed that there were 3 cruise ships in the harbor, so we quickly left the capital city by public bus! We already realized here.... it's island saver's day! For $1.50 per person (taxi costs $10) plus an interesting ride! When we arrived at Jolly Beach, we looked for the scooter rental, which we found after a short search. The person at the rental asked us, 'You are with a cruise ship here?', and explained that the e-scooter is only for 1 person and the battery is not enough for the tour! I wonder what he meant by that? Offer: 2 scooters for $80 instead of $45 for one, plus an island driver's license, which is not only needed for cars and driving on the left.... we kindly declined and went to the beach! A dream beach, but first the usual game...into the water and after a few minutes the Caribbean rain shower! But luckily it was short and only happened twice! After a beer and a walk on the beach, we went back by public bus and had a bus driver who drove over field paths and shortcuts as if the devil was after him- the ride will be remembered! We spent $16 instead of the planned $70 - it's island saver's day after all!! In the evening, the house band played and then there was singing at the Nightflight Club! In between, we also met Werner from the gym in the whirlpool.... the world is so small!
