Memorial - Hohenschönhausen

We enter the former Stasi prison. The bars and walls give us a first impression of the past. Through a short informational film, we get an overview of the conditions and the historical development of the GDR and the Stasi prison. Arbitrary acts and torture were the order of the day. Afterwards, we are divided into 2 groups and guided through the prison. Our guide (Alex) is very sympathetic. Captivated and silent, the students listen in the interrogation room as Alex, as a 15-year-old, was beaten up by thugs after a radio host jokingly reported that the Rolling Stones were playing in the West, which he wanted to listen to. It is also interesting to see the isolation methods with which the Stasi would have tortured political prisoners. Some students struggle with tiredness as the past few days have been very eventful. We leave the prison towards the tram.
