Stage 78: From Kutaisi to Borjomi

ที่ตีพิมพ์: 05.03.2022

For today rain and heavy gusts of wind were predicted, besides there would have been a decent climb waiting for me. The idea of covering part of the route by train was therefore simply too tempting! So there was also enough time to make a detour to the Bagrati Cathedral, the landmark of Kutaisi, in the morning.

The train from Kutaisi to Khashuri only runs once a day, the train station staff was super helpful and the ride was very cheap. We visited for almost four hours for the approximately 100 kilometers, but got a lot in terms of landscape! From Khashuri I still had about 30 kilometers ahead of me to Borjomi. The place is known as a spa town and for its mineral springs with healing effects. The mineral water is advertised throughout the country. In light rain, we went through the mountains and to Natalia's (Nata) guest house, a warm-hearted elderly lady who spoke no English. There was a tiny guest room that could only be entered through the kitchen. In the summer, many tourists apparently come to Borjomi, but in early March it's dead here, unfortunately the cable car was also not in operation. After coffee with Natalia, there was only a short walk and a quick dinner from the supermarket.
