Wallabies at sunrise and freefall over the Great Barrier Reef

We hope you're doing well! We have another travel report and some photos for you.

In Cape Hillsborough National Park, we found ourselves among several wallabies before sunrise. To see them, we were at Casuarina Beach at 5:30am. The beach was covered with small sand mounds, which were formed overnight by countless tiny crabs into a huge work of art. In the light of dawn, they were visible: wallabies! The scenery was incredibly beautiful. One of the larger animals came very close to us, smelling Vroni's hand and enjoying some cuddles. After sunrise, they retreated back into the dense thickets to escape the heat.

For days, we've had temperatures over 31 degrees Celsius during the day. In addition, the subtropical humidity intensifies the perception of temperature. It feels much hotter than it actually is. However, the subtropical heat is not the challenge. The increasingly tropical climate also changes the flora and fauna. Sandflies are the keyword we're getting at. These blood-sucking insects, which are only up to four millimeters in size, are causing us trouble in this paradise. Our bodies are covered in bites. And if that's not enough, we both also had an allergic reaction to the bites. Thanks to a very friendly pharmacist and Lorano® acutely in our travel first aid kit, we still look very beaten up, but we were able to suppress the incessant itching and the constant urge to scratch.

So what do you do when it's so hot and you constantly think about all the bites?

We need a distraction. It has to be effective. Extremely effective. And preferably with some wind, so we can get some fresh air again. Skydiving! That's it. A freefall from an airplane. So off we go!

Done! Today at eight o'clock in the morning, we were at the airport of Airlie Beach, dressed in our snazzy skydiving outfits. The plane took us to 15,000 feet (about 4.6 kilometers) high, the door opened, and then we went down again at over 220 kilometers per hour in freefall. The view was spectacular and indescribable. We had a breathtaking view over the crystal-clear, turquoise water of the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands! And we would do it again anytime!!
