From a 'Hey, shouldn't we fly to America together and plan a road trip?' it became a reality a year later.
We started at 07:30 AM from the train station in Siegburg. Our mothers said goodbye to us, because we will always remain their children.
The train was very crowded, so we had to stand in the boarding area. In retrospect, this was probably the easier solution since we had 4 large backpacks. Although with 2 of the backpacks, one might question whether they can actually be called backpacks or if they are more like tiny houses...
Upon arriving at Frankfurt Airport, everything went smoothly. We were able to check in our backpacks and 'tiny houses' as oversized luggage, so we didn't have to wait long.
Nico was selected and had to undergo an additional security check (SSSS). We were all a bit nervous for a moment, even though we knew it was just a routine check. Since this check took a bit longer, we arrived at the gate just as check-in was already starting.
We flew with a Boeing 747-8. We had already reserved seats in anticipation, as Moritz with his long legs always hits the seat in front of him and we didn't want to endure 11 hours of complaining, so the 60€ per person was worth it to us.
Looking back, it was also the better choice for all of us, as we could comfortably sit down and rest our legs against the wall.
After a turbulence-free flight with Nuremberg sausages, mashed potatoes, red cabbage, and cheese noodles with cauliflower, we landed on time in Los Angeles at 1:00 PM, adjusted for the time difference.
