Kuramathi Island Resort is one of the larger islands in the Maldives. But don't be fooled: you're still almost always alone! There is always a beautiful spot hidden behind palm trees to quietly enjoy the sun of the Maldives.
The Arrival
After about 10-11 hours of flying time from Germany and a panoramic landing in Male, you continue towards the seaplane. After initial excitement, we enjoyed the truly breathtaking flight towards Kuramathi. Upon arrival, there was the standard program with a welcome cocktail and registration.
The Accommodation
We had booked a water bungalow (which, by the way, is located on the coral reef side!). Equipped with a whirlpool on the terrace (yes, a Jacuzzi above the sea, somehow strange, right?), the spacious "Over-Water" bungalow left nothing to be desired.
Restaurants & Food
The island has three main and some a la carte restaurants. If you have booked All-Inclusive Select, you can also be surprised by specialties of all kinds here! Our favorite was definitely "The Reef"! Cocktails are already included in the normal All-Inclusive package.
Beaches
The island offers an endless, fine sandy beach. Especially the long tongue that goes far into the Indian Ocean at low tide can provide for long and romantic walks. There is always a shady spot under a palm tree for a picture-perfect atmosphere! It is most beautiful on the lagoon side (Blue lagoon), as there are no corals and you can go into the water without hesitation.
Underwater world and snorkeling in the Maldives
The island has its own house reef, which is located directly at the water bungalows. There are a total of three entry points, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a bungalow right there. The house reef is beautiful, our highlight was a about 4 meters wide manta ray that "flew" past us. Snorkeling trips are also offered, which, with a little luck, bring encounters with turtles, rays, sharks and other wonderful underwater creatures. There are certainly islands where the reef is more beautiful, but for us, as "once-a-year" snorkelers, it was completely sufficient.
Never-ending: Weather in the Maldives
The weather in the Maldives is a topic in itself. We go there once a year and have already experienced a lot. Basically: forget the weather forecast! It usually indicates rain, which is not true at all. Since we had good Wi-Fi reception, we always checked it out of interest ;-)
If you go from May to November, you have to expect cloudy days, but you save a lot of money. A compromise that is not so bad after all, and two weeks of "relentless" heat are also very exhausting. From December to April, the guarantee of cloudless days is highest. We were there in March (2 weeks without clouds) as well as in May and June, and both times we had about 6 cloudy days out of 14. Other acquaintances also experienced 2 weeks of great weather in August. So there is a bit of luck involved!
Conclusion
The price/performance ratio is right! There are not many islands that you can afford for 2000-3000 euros - Kuramathi is one of them. We were thrilled, from the friendliness of the staff to the last hidden spot on the island. Everything was great!
