Hey guys, of course I haven't forgotten you, what do you think of me? Yes, where should I start or where did I end? Our stay in Asturias was extended again and again, it was just so beautiful there. We ended up staying for 11 days, spending the last 3 days there more or less out of necessity. The reason for this was a gastrointestinal infection. Well, once everything was back on track, we continued along the coast. Oh, by the way, we stood on a surfboard for the first time in Asturias. Well, standing would be an exaggeration, trying to stand does it more justice. In any case, it's really fun, even though you can't do it yet. It's crazy how quickly time can pass in the water! But I'm telling you, it looks easier than it is! Nevertheless, it certainly wasn't our last time. So we continued along the coast, always heading south, making a few acquaintances along the way, meeting nice people and encountering beautiful beaches. The sand in Galicia became whiter and the water became clearer. Of course we didn't miss places like Santiago de Compostela and visited the famous cathedral, which is the destination for many pilgrims.
...Then the certainty that we have done it. We are in Portugal! A dream becomes true. Drive to Portugal in your own camper. Thank you Bob for doing so well! By the way, Portugal will also be the last country on our long journey. Whether you believe it or not, we have been on the road for 9 months now. It's crazy how quickly time flies, isn't it?
The first highlight was the city of Porto. I am still enthusiastic about the city and can only recommend that everyone visit Porto. The atmosphere, the people, the beautiful, narrow streets, the river bank, the beautiful tiles on the house walls, lots of street artists and pastel de nata on every corner. Guys, I really don't have a sweet tooth but this! Well, I have to admit that I often get weak when it comes to pudding, but the parts are really good! A typical local specialty. A puff pastry filled with vanilla pudding, wonderful. So you see, I can't stop raving about it. By the way, I imagined some things to be different in Portugal. Somehow, for me, everything further south is not yet that modern. Nothing there, the Portuguese speak good English (much better than in Spain and France), the toll is electronic and even Uber is common practice. (Uber is like a taxi, only you are driven by private people and everything is done via an app)
So we strolled through the alleys in Porto, enjoyed the atmosphere, ate Portuguese specialties in cute restaurants and marveled at the city day and night. Of course we didn't miss out on a port wine tasting. You know, those days when everything is just right? I remember Porto in exactly the same way.
Since the weather hasn't been so good over the last few days, we drove a few kilometers and unfortunately weren't able to really get to know the nature of Portugal yet. Hopefully that will change soon. Our goal is to get to the south of Portugal fairly quickly, as the chances of good weather there are very high.
Of course we will also take a closer look at Lisbon! Today we got a foretaste in the cute little town of Sintra. I really can't get enough of all these cork items. By the way, Portugal is the largest cork producer in the world. No wonder, everything here is made from cork. I just can't resist that. I think David is a bit annoyed by my spending spree. No, it's really not that bad. But you can take a look...
We will spend the next few days in and around Lisbon. I'm very excited to see whether Lisbon will go one step further.
