Today was our last full day of vacation. Since we had a few ideas, we spontaneously got a rental car.
Since we probably won't fit in the convertible for four people because of all the food we ate, we chose the GLC300 from Mercedes today.
As it turned out, not such a good choice.
With 245 horsepower, it's not exactly overpowered for this weight, but it doesn't matter in the States anyway.
The sticking point was the passenger seatbelt buckle. It was defective. The car thought the passenger wasn't strapped in.
That means the car started beeping at every intersection or when we were driving slowly. And that in the traffic of LA. It means stop and go... you really go crazy...
Today, our first stop was the 'Los Leones Canyon Trailhead'. We wanted to hike to the 'Parker Mesa Overlook', a great viewpoint of the coast.
The trail was narrow and overgrown right from the start. Considering that there are rattlesnakes here, our enthusiasm was limited.
After about 10 minutes, something rustled in the bushes. And some creature the size of a cat came out of the bush and darted across the path.
A quick look at the two girls immediately revealed: TURN AROUND!
So we did. It doesn't make sense if something happens.
So we got back in the beeping car and headed to Hollywood.
We drove along Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard until we reached a side street of the Walk of Fame. We found a free parking space right away.
Since we only had 45 minutes for the city tour here a week ago, we wanted to stroll around again in peace.
It was worth it.
Then we drove across the city to Marina del Rey. Always with the gentle beeping of the seat belt warning system in our ears. Wonderful.
From there, we went to Venice Beach for our last sunset.
After returning the great car 😜 and shopping for home, we went to the Santa Monica Pier for the famous Forrest Gump location one last time. Today we had to wait 40 minutes for a table.
So we left our phone number there and went a little further to play some games.
After about 35 minutes, I hit the jackpot on this spinning thing with the last dollar of the gambling night. Then time got a bit tight. 1000 of these tickets had to come out of a machine first. The Americans liked it. They grinned and occasionally said 'great'.
In Germany, you just get strange looks. Well, that's how it is.
The food was great again. We had surf and turf and steamed crab legs, among other things. It was something different.
So now sleep one more time and then back home.
Sleep well and stay healthy.
