Day 2 (1): Breakthrough to the east

Today we went over the former East-West border. The facilities at the Helmstedt border crossing are still very well preserved and can be visited. There was also a small exhibition. This border post was the largest of its kind, around 50% of the transit traffic was handled here. Even though you can only guess, through eyewitness reports you could get a sense of what crossing the border must have felt like. After a stop, we continued towards Potsdam.
