Such a trip is quite exhausting. 300 to 400 km a day with a Sprinter over 7 m long on winding and bumpy roads, it's quite tiring. So today we went on foot to Te Anau. We have walked about 5 to 6 km along the lakeshore so far. Along the way, we visited a bird park. There is a picture among the photos that I took of the largest New Zealand flightless bird there. Its name is Takahe. A pretty large group of children were explained a lot by a park staff member. The children, about 4 to 5 years old, were very quiet and attentive. The nice staff member even brought us two adults into the enclosure so that we could get a better view of the bird. Then a child asked why she did that. She told him that there are many people from all over the world who come to New Zealand specifically to see the animals that are only found here.
This bird park was free of charge as well.
On the way around the lake, we encountered many walkers and joggers. Everyone, without exception, greeted. Some even made remarks (about the weather) or spoke to us directly. This happens constantly and everywhere here.
Maybe we'll go out again later, this time in the other direction. Tonight, we want to go out to eat again, to a restaurant that offers 'German Bread' on the menu. We are very curious because the bread situation is really a problem for us.
So today there are only a few photos. I have to upload them later again because the internet in this house is not reliable.
