On Wednesday, we left at 6:30 in the morning by bus to Gansbaai, which is about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive away, to go shark diving! =D
After arriving there, we had breakfast and received instructions on how to behave. Then, we took a boat ride for about fifteen minutes out into the open sea. We anchored there and then it was time to wait! After about half an hour of waiting, we changed positions and tried our luck elsewhere. Five of us, including me, got a chance to get into the safety cage that was lowered into the water. But then, we had to wait again... Suddenly, someone shouted, DOWN DOWN DOWN!!! Where? How? Camera? Oops, not ready yet! Quickly dive underwater! It was gone... The other four saw it, wow, it was a big one! And me... I didn't see it... I was too busy trying to turn on my phone camera... Now I turned it on! Next time, I have to be faster! But once again, we were condemned to wait! Then, again, DOWN DOWN DOWN!!! This time, I was faster and took a few shots in the dark! But all I saw was a brief shadow of a shark and the pictures showed only murky water... And now, we had to get out of the cage! The next group of five was up.
We continued observing from the deck. And now the real show began! One shark after another appeared! But from up here, they were much easier to observe and we could take great photos and videos! From the deck, it was almost better than from the cage!
In total, we saw one male and one female white shark, both still quite young, but they each appeared multiple times, a bull shark, a huge stingray, and some dolphins.
After everyone had been in the cage, we headed back to the shore, had lunch, could buy a film with footage from today, and then made the 3-hour journey back to Cape Town.
All in all, it was a successful day! =D
