Fertile soil, mild climate, excellent olive oil

Enough hiking for now, so today we're planning a short drive to Nyons. This charming little town lies in the valley of the small river Eygues in the south of the Drôme department and is surrounded by nearby mountains and hills, which ensure a sheltered location. This makes the climate particularly mild and olives and wine thrive here. The olives and olive oil from Nyons have been protected by the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée designation of origin since 1994. We buy a bottle of this original olive oil in the small grocery store. A later tasting (a little of it on a piece of baguette) proves that this is in a completely different league to what you usually buy from the supermarket. The wine from here is also sold in stores under the Côtes du Rhône designation of origin. The historic medieval center, parts of which date back to the 13th and 14th centuries, is particularly interesting for tourists. The tower of the Notre-Dame de Bon Secours chapel towers over the other buildings and is noticeable from afar. At the edge of the old town, the stone arch bridge "Pont de Nyons" from 1409 spans the river.
