I had actually expected a great starry sky in such a remote location, but unfortunately, the full moon was too bright at first, and later clouds rolled in. For breakfast, there were eggs with bacon, and well-fortified, I set off for the last 30 km to Hanmer Springs. At a junction to a side valley, I was briefly tempted to try a piece of 4WD track. It was possible, but even slower and more exhausting than the regular track. After all, the bus is not a four-wheel-drive pickup.
Finally, down in the valley lies Hanmer Springs with its warm springs and an outdoor pool surrounding it. I buy a day pass with a locker (27,- €), and I can take a longer shower after two days of rough tracks. There are about 15 different pools, with temperatures ranging from 28° in the 25m pool to 42° in the thermal water pool, and water slides in the play area. The locker is opened with an RFID chip, quite a smart solution. The slides look good, but you can only go down without glasses. Moreover, no children need entertaining this time, so no slides, just enjoying the pools and lanes.
After 4 hours in the various pools, I am done, softened, and relaxed. A nice end to the first week on tour, I drive another 30 km to a large campsite. For 5 dollars a night, there is a spot under tall pines, simple toilets, and running water, so everything necessary for a peaceful night.
