Day 25: Diving Trip in the Caribbean

Today we had to wake up a bit earlier so that we could have breakfast before heading out on our first diving trip together. We had already booked our spots the day before, so we packed snacks and sandwiches and made our way to the hotel zone in Cancun, where our meeting point was. After checking in at the diving school, all we had to do was try on and check our equipment, and then we were good to go. While we were waiting for our boat, to our surprise, we spotted a 2-meter long crocodile, which had made itself comfortable right next to the pier. These dinosaur-like creatures are also the reason why swimming is not allowed in the lagoon (the opposite side of the beautiful Caribbean beaches). There apparently are up to 10,000 of these heavily armored creatures living in the Cancun lagoon. Additionally, a 40cm long iguana walked past us, but nobody except us, of course, seemed too interested. After about 30 minutes of waiting, we finally set off. Viktoria, our diving instructor from France, gave us the classic briefing about the dive spot during the one-hour boat ride, and then we were ready to go. Since it was Anna's first dive in the sea, she was visibly nervous, but that quickly disappeared after 5 seconds underwater.
The first dive spot was called MUSA and is the largest underwater museum in the world. Along with countless artistic figures, an authentic VW Beetle had also been sunk. The dive lasted about 50 minutes and was breathtakingly beautiful. The only thing that slightly dampened this great experience was that Anna felt nauseous after surfacing and decided to provide some food for the fish right there in the water. Nevertheless, Anna continued, and 10 minutes later we were back underwater, exploring the Cancun reef. In addition to stingrays, lobsters, and moray eels, we saw thousands of small reef fish that were mostly swimming in large schools.
Even after the second dive, Anna fed the fish in the sea again, which was probably due to the rough sea and the oxygen enriched with nitrogen. During the return trip, Anna had a hard time because her condition didn't really improve. Viktoria confirmed to us that this often happens during the first dives in the sea and that there is a tablet you should take 1 hour before diving to counteract this.
On land, Anna's condition quickly improved again, and we chatted with the other divers, who gave us useful tips for the rest of our journey.

After our dives, we enjoyed the sunset at Playa Delfines, where the famous Cancun letters are located.

All in all, despite some 'unpleasant' incidents, it was a great day and we have no regrets.
