Route: 5 Rivers Cycle Path + Lauterachtal Cycle Path (Kastl - Regensburg)
Kilometers covered: 68
The day started with an impressive breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, I had slept really poorly and was therefore extremely tired. Unfortunately, this lasted throughout the day.
I set off, initially along the Lauterach river until Schmidmühlen. The path is really beautiful: the small river on the left and right, and forest on the right. That's where the American military exclusion zone is. I stopped every now and then to enjoy the peace and nature. At Schmidmühlen, the Lauterach river flows into the Vils river, but the character of the cycle path remained similar. The two rivers meandered through a beautiful valley, lined with small villages. Today, I was completely in the Upper Palatinate region, in the districts of Amberg-Sulzbach, Schwandorf, and Regensburg. The sun was shining and the nature was amazing.
In Kallmünz, the Vils river flows into the Naab river, and the little town itself is really worth seeing. Because the waterfront promenade was also beautifully renovated, I sat down there. There were many cyclists on the road from Kallmünz onwards, before that I had hardly seen any. Along the Naab river, I was pretty exhausted and hungry and made slow progress, but I was able to enjoy beautiful nature again.
At Regensburg, the Naab river flows into the Danube river. Via the Danube Island and the Stone Bridge, I finally reached the old town. I found a pizzeria where I enjoyed a late lunch around 3 pm. You can wonderfully observe people while doing so. After that, I strolled through the old town a bit with my bike, listened to the Domspatzen choir rehearsal in the cathedral, and finally went to my friends' flatshare.
They were all not there because it's currently semester break, but they had given me a key. I was quite tired again, relaxed on the sofa, took a shower, and had a Radler beer before going to bed early again.
