After a 2-day break from blogging, Kathleen took to the keyboard today. Have fun reading:
After our little scooter accident on Friday, we were forced to take a mandatory break on Saturday. The midwives went shopping at the market after a hearty breakfast, where Dorottya successfully bought a beautiful dress after negotiations. The couple enjoyed themselves by the pool overlooking the sea and enjoying numerous fruit shakes. When the midwives returned, the cocktail bar was already open for us at lunchtime, which we used until late at night.
Indeed, it was a very relaxing day for reading, getting tanned and playing Wizard. Despite the scratches, the mood is still fantastic. So, thanks to competent advice at the reception, we planned a snorkeling day trip.
On Sunday morning, we went to breakfast in the early hours of the morning (okay, it was only 7:30 am, but it's early for a vacation) and then at 8:20 am we were picked up directly from the beach by the house boat. You have to admit that despite their relaxed lifestyle, the Thais value punctuality a lot. After collecting about 30 more highly motivated tourists every few hundred meters, we drove for half an hour to an uninhabited island to be released there with another 100 tourists from other boats to explore the beautiful underwater world. During the tour, we made acquaintance with Johanna, a very lively woman who introduced herself as a quarter German, a quarter Italian, quarter Black, and a quarter American. We realized that within 10 minutes she fulfilled every classic American tourist cliché. What I mean by that is up to your imagination.
In any case, we focused less on mass tourism and much more on the beauty and diversity of the underwater world. After a brief introduction for Dorottya (it was her first snorkeling trip), we had plenty of time to drift and enjoy. For lunch, we were dropped off on one of the islands (Koh Rok) to have lunch with about 600 tourists from all nations. We knew it would be like this, but unfortunately, there is no other option for snorkeling besides mass tourism. At least we couldn't find one. So, we made the best of it and watched a Chinese photoshoot during the lunch break. Again, I'll leave the details to your imagination. Since I myself have lived abroad for a total of two years and fulfilled every German cliché, I can take the liberty of smiling about the other nations.
After another stop for snorkeling, which we mostly used to take pictures, we were thrown out again directly at our accommodation. Saltwater is known to be good for healing wounds, but in the end, it still burned like hell, so we had to end the last snorkeling session a bit earlier.
The midwives treated themselves to another Thai massage, so did Big Bo, and I chilled with a cocktail and a book by the sea. We all enjoyed the beautiful sunset together at the horizon. Such beauty simply cannot be put into words. Since the beach here is very wide and long, the people are so spread out that you never get the feeling that it's very crowded here. On the contrary. Earlier, when I was walking on the beach, I had a brief moment of feeling alone with the sea. Just a little dream. But back to yesterday. After devouring a huge papaya (my mother would only travel here for such a good papaya), we wanted to have fish for dinner one last time on the island. Said and done. We ordered fish, this time even spicy, because until now we hadn't had the impression that the food was always overspiced. Stupid decision. It was so spicy that we did eat it, but only because it was there. Once again, it brought us a step further in our Thai experience. The chocolate milkshake for dessert made everything okay again.
Mario got up at 6 am today to explore the island with the scooter again. We girls decided to enjoy sweet dreams and have a leisurely breakfast instead. Currently, we are reading, I am writing the report, and from time to time you just have to jump into the water to at least feel wet. Unfortunately, the water doesn't cool you down much, it's just too warm.
At 2 pm, we will be picked up and taken to the airport. Unfortunately, we are leaving this little paradise here to continue to Chiang Mai. We'll decide what we'll do there. For me, it's an absolute privilege and not something to be taken for granted to be here with my husband and two amazing women. Great and deep conversations, lots of laughter, but also real and honest moments, sometimes with tears, accompany us. That's just life and that's exactly what I love. I am curious where our Thailand journey will lead us.
