Foggy City - San Fran

Нашр шудааст: 01.07.2016

After surviving Las Vegas without any physical or financial damage, we made our way to the northwestern part of California. The journey was expected to take a few days, to exchange the mountains and endless plains for the occasional longed-for beach. After encountering more desert and the beaches on the West Coast losing their luster due to the cool and windy weather, we arrived in San Francisco earlier than planned. The only highlight was the acquaintance with a young warm brother from the other shore. I am still not sure why Max had such a wide grin during the conversation with him. San Francisco, also known as the Cologne of the USA, is the stronghold of homosexuality, which does not dampen the mood of us tolerant and cosmopolitan fellows (I don't want to offend anyone from Cologne - Cologne is very beautiful - Shopping Queen and Guido Maria Kretschmar are great :p).

San Francisco, Foggy City or as Tony Bennett titled it in his song 'I left my heart in San Francisco', has become one of our highlights so far. Why, you might ask? The answer would be something like this: San Francisco, like any other American city, has a downtown where impressive skyscrapers give each other shade and create beautiful silhouettes. Unlike other US cities, San Francisco, with its infrastructure, location, and architecture outside of downtown, has an incredible European charm. In addition, the people are extremely relaxed and friendly with each other and simply enjoy life. But enough advertising and marketing, make your own experiences and join our opinion or never mention a word to us 😉. Just kidding, we are happy to share experiences and opinions, that's why we write this blog.

Shortly after our arrival, we met a fellow student from my time in Indiana. Since she lives in Portland and wanted to visit her family in Los Angeles, we met in San Francisco and spent a few days together. The first day together, we took an extensive walk along the promenade from downtown to Fishermen's Wharf. During this walk, you get closer to the island of Alcatraz and get great views of the island and the bridge connecting San Francisco and Oakland, home of the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, we once again failed to take the ferry to the Alcatraz prison because you have to reserve tickets online weeks in advance. Along the way, you pass many small cafes and street performers, while the setting sun reflects in the windows of the brightly lit skyscrapers. It automatically puts you in a cozy mood.

The following day, we made our way to the famous Lombard Street, which is considered the most crooked street in the world. On the way there, once again on foot, we walked up and down San Francisco's streets while the smart people used the cable cars ☹. The view of the streets with the cable cars and the colors of the city made up for the effort. In the evening, we went to a small bar near the RV where we had incredible fun with the local residents. Max, in particular, got into many conversations, while I and my friend Dayra reminisced about the past.

Then the day came when we finally got to see the city's great landmark and took the same pictures as all the other tourists. The bus ride to the Golden Gate Bridge was unbearably hot, long, and certainly not the best remedy for the hangover from the previous evening that everyone was carrying. Impressed by the size and idyllic surroundings, we tried to get many great pictures of the bridge, of the bridge with us, of us, and everything around us 😀. A long and seemingly endless walk along the beach, past dream houses and through parks where people sunbathed, grilled, and played volleyball, was an extremely successful conclusion as the departure was scheduled for the next day.

However, before we packed our things, we went to Hooters to watch the waitresses and especially the final game of the basketball season in the USA between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. The sides were clearly divided, as the entire bar was packed and dressed in blue and yellow (the colors of the Golden State Warriors). It was a historic game accompanied by an indescribably great atmosphere among the fans. The tension and excitement were similar to what we experience only during the World Cup of the men's national soccer teams. Thumbs up for this unique experience, even though the Golden State Warriors lost.

In the evening, we started the engines of the Minnie Winnies and headed towards Southern California, expecting great beaches and new impressions.
