From dusk till dawn

The alarm clock rang early, very early to be exact. But there was a reason for that, we sensed the perfect sunrise from the comfort of our bed. First quickly to the toilet, on the way back to the car it became clear that today we would finally have the chance to witness the almost first sunrise of the world...

Back in the Odhi, it was time to wait and enjoy, the colors in the sky changed every second. With each ray of sunshine, life returned to our planet, birds warmed themselves in the sun. This moment was so priceless beautiful that even after the complete sunrise, we stayed in bed for a while and simply let the landscape take effect on us.

But then suddenly the hunger struck and so we had to, willingly or not, go out and into the 'kitchen'. A short time later, the table was abundantly set as usual.

After our meal, we commissioned Pia for a small photo shoot with our Odhi

Then we explored the town and an art gallery. There were many small shops with special and homemade things, perfect for some souvenirs.

For today, a hike was planned again, the last one was really a few days ago. Te Mata Peak was the destination and we chose a medium distance route. We encountered more sheep than hikers, which was very pleasant. Past limestone caves, giant trees, and winding narrow trails, the last stretch (after a few rest and enjoy breaks) led us to the deserved view.

The view extended over the entire Hawke's Bay to snow-covered mountains inland, see for yourself...

The hike was somewhat strenuous at times, but the effort was worth it. After the trip, we left the beautiful area in eastern New Zealand. Our next overnight stop was about 1.5 hours drive west. After some time, we left the highway and followed a narrow road (yes, it was actually paved) along a river. It went up and down, and behind the next bend was the campsite in a low-lying area, a huge grassy area right next to the river - we had reached the Glenfalls DOC Campsite. Tim's angler's heart raced at this sight, maybe this was his last chance. As soon as we parked the cars, Tim was already off, using the last hours of daylight to maybe catch something...?!

The girls passed the time by cleaning up, it looked something like this ...

Well, there wasn't much space, perfect for small people like this Odhi :)

Oh, and then there was Pia's camping stove, which was now to be used. Gas cartridges were used, unlike us. Since neither of us knew anything about it and the instructions didn't help us either, we waited for Tim. But there was no sign of him anywhere. Now that it was getting dark and the preparations for dinner were almost complete, we went in search of the angler.
In the twilight, we could just about locate the little man. Tim was thrilled with this body of water, but unfortunately he didn't catch anything that day.
