Last Stop: Tortuguero

The last stop of our trip was Tortuguero in Costa Rica. The journey from Panama City was not easy and took a long time. We started in the morning at 5 o'clock and arrived in the evening at 6 o'clock. Quite a long time for a relatively short distance, but transportation in Costa Rica is rather difficult, as we have already experienced several times before. When we arrived, we only had a quick meal and then went to sleep. From our accommodation, we had a very good view of the sunset.

For the next day, we didn't have much planned. After a good breakfast, we strolled around the small town. It's really beautiful there and especially quiet, as there are no cars. Later, we took a short trip to the beach and visited the small turtle museum. There we learned about the turtles that lay their eggs on the beach of Tortuguero. We were really amazed how huge the leatherback turtles are. Unfortunately, it's not the right time at the moment, so we couldn't observe any turtles.

On the second day, we wanted to see some more animals. In the morning, we went through the park on our own. The path along the sea is really beautiful. Unfortunately, we didn't see many animals. Maybe we were spoiled by Cahuita. Nevertheless, we saw a sloth, a small snake (the black and red striped one in the photo), a large green parrot, and some monkeys.

In the evening, we wanted to do a night tour. However, we were advised against it, as it is currently too hot and dry to see many animals in the evening. Instead, we treated ourselves to a great meal at a seafood restaurant to end our trip.

On the way back from Tortuguero to San José, we had the chance to see some animals in and around the river from the boat, including a water snake, iguanas and basilisks, as well as some crocodiles and caimans. It was a nice ending.

Now we had one more night in Alajuela near the airport and then we headed home. The 9 weeks went by so quickly, but we made many great experiences in the 3 countries. It was definitely different from Asia, but just as beautiful. Now everyday life awaits us at home before we travel again😉.
