After about a three-hour taxi ride, we reached our accommodation at Kumbuk River. It consisted of several extraordinary living options, such as a villa in the shape of a huge elephant called Elephant Villa. We opted for the Jungle Cabin: an old truck converted into accommodation with two double beds and a private bathroom with a shower. Everything was completely glazed, so you could look out everywhere. In the bathroom, you could only look out from the inside to the outside, which was very convenient for a bathroom, even if it is in the middle of nature. We were super excited about this great and extraordinary eco accommodation in the middle of the jungle. From the bed, we could see the Kumbuk River directly, surrounded by trees and various plants. After a delicious fruity welcome drink, we first explored the surroundings. We climbed over a suspension bridge to the other side of the Kumbuk River. Here, with a little luck, you can even see elephants. Our extremely warm hostess immediately offered us a tour of the jungle on a trekker. We gladly accepted the offer, and an employee of Kumbuk River drove us through the vast landscape to a lake. On the way, we saw various birds, peacocks, and cows. Our guide told us that elephants herds come to drink at the water and there are even crocodiles. We eagerly looked out for the animals. Unfortunately, we had no luck, but we enjoyed the beautiful view, the nature, and the silence here. In the following days, we went out on bicycles ourselves, went on a raft tour on the Kumbuk River, and treated ourselves to a bit of wellness with a mud bath and a massage. We were almost the only guests there and were cooked delicious meals, typical Sri Lankan food, lots of rice, vegetables, and meat, and three courses for every dinner. You can really stay here and enjoy the peace away from people. You are in the middle of nature and far from the mobile network. Being offline for a few days was really relaxing - digital detox :-)
