Andalusia, Nerja

On the way from Cabo de Gata we cracked the 3000 km mark! And Miss Molly is still running smoothly 😊 Just by the way...

In Nerja, we spontaneously found a great little campsite on an avocado plantation. Actually, it's a kind of courtyard with avocado trees, banana plants, all nicely overgrown and with spaces to stand everywhere. Totally wild and totally beautiful, a little oasis. The owner, a very warm woman, also takes in animals that nobody wants anymore. So there were chickens, a turkey, cats, donkeys, a horse, and Anna the parrot at the reception. Luckily, I (Annabel) didn't like the place we had previously chosen.... 😬 otherwise we would probably never have come here..... This sometimes leads to tensions when I am not happy with the place (because of too many people, too noisy....) but then we somehow always find something really great, so that everything is fine again. So far, it has always worked that way, let's hope it stays that way 😉 It was only a 5-minute walk to the beach from there, which of course we tested in the afternoon. The next day, we cycled into Nerja. Everything was flat, as the owner's daughter explained to us, great for cycling.... Well, everything was doable by bike, but sometimes we had to pedal hard and even get off because the road was too steep. But it was super nice, we saw the most important things, the Balcón de Europa, a panoramic viewpoint, the supposedly most beautiful beach there (there were lots of coves/beaches one after the other and we thought there were nicer ones), which was of course totally crowded, and we explored the coves and spent the rest of the day at the beach.

Originally, we wanted to take a detour to Granada from Nerja to visit the Alhambra. As always, we naively thought that this would not be a problem in the off-season..... luckily, since it was no longer possible to get tickets online until the end of August!!!!!, we asked at the tourist information office. Here too, the information was: no chance. So we also decided not to take the whole 200km detour to try it out on a whim, but instead wanted to continue to Tarifa. The next morning, we packed up together to visit the famous Cuevas de Nerja before continuing to Tarifa. This is a cave system that was discovered by chance in 1959. You can walk through it and see stalactites & stalagmites and all sorts of surreal formations. Apparently, the caves were already inhabited by Stone Age hunters. Very exciting & simply beautiful, what nature has created here. And we immediately got tickets without having to pre-order them... a completely new experience for us 😂

You will find out soon what we experienced in Tarifa & the surrounding area....
