Back to Lima via La Paz

Our group consisted of only four people - Alexis, myself, another French girl, and of course our guide. We first rode our bikes downhill on a paved road for the first 23 kilometers. We completed this part in less than an hour, with a couple of photo breaks. It was incredibly fun racing down the mountain at high speed.

Additionally, traffic on the Yungas Road follows left-hand driving, so that the drivers sitting on the left can have better visibility when encountering vehicles from the opposite direction.

The journey back to La Paz took another three hours, and we all slept through it.

The next morning, I was finally awoken by the second pillow that Alexis threw at me. I looked at the clock and was shocked to see that it was already 8:45. My flight, however, was scheduled for 10:30, and the airport was a good half an hour away without much traffic. Fortunately, I had almost finished packing my things and only had a few things left to do. I hastily stuffed the rest into my backpack and sprinted downstairs to the reception. By shortly after nine, I had checked out and had to find a taxi. Unfortunately, my condition was not great after only four hours of sleep and a few too many apple juices. When I quickly found a taxi, the driver and I soon realized that the highway to the airport was completely congested. My taxi driver probably has a second job as a race car driver because we zoomed through the side streets and up the mountain towards the airport. Somehow, he understood that I was in a hurry, and I arrived at the airport safely at 9:45.

The horror of the 13-hour bus ride from Sucre back to La Paz is now behind me. To say it was a nightmare would be an understatement. First of all, I almost didn't get a seat because the bus company somehow misplaced my reservation.
