The cow goes moo... moooohhh

First of all: Grandma was right. We were greeted this morning by bright sunshine. Reason enough to set off and cover a few kilometers.

We have to admit that due to lack of time (weather and health conditions), we had to skip one stage by using four wheels.

We chose Barcelos as our starting point - a beautiful old city. From there, we walked 10 km to Tamel. But because we were still in such a good mood in Tamel and the weather didn't let us down, we just kept going.

Past small mountain villages, vineyards, kiwi and eucalyptus trees, as well as many orange and lemon trees.

All very idyllic. In total, we may have met ten people today.

Along the way, Julius tried to make friends with the animal residents of Portugal and wanted to convince cows, sheep, goats, chickens, and dogs of his friendly nature. However, it must also be said honestly that they showed little interest in his 'friend request'.

In the middle of it all, we thought about where we should spend the night and came across a very nice, small hostel/hotel.

We were greeted with port wine and chestnut cake and a big smile.

The hotel staff is unbeatable when it comes to warmth and friendliness.

First, she asked us if she should cook for us in the evening so we wouldn't have to go out in the rain.

We declined, as we didn't want to make any extra work for her.

In the end, she took us to a restaurant where she wanted to have dinner with her family.

All this just so we wouldn't get wet.

So here we were, sitting at a table with three Portuguese people who spoke English poorly at best, enjoying a simple but good dinner. There was even laughter. That's how you promote understanding between nations.

By the way, the Portuguese think that we Germans always eat the most...
