We are currently lounging by our pool by the sea and thought we'd write the blog in the afternoon. But first, let's talk about what we did yesterday and today.

Yesterday morning, we had Fried Rice for breakfast (we were the only guests in a very local accommodation) and then headed out for a waterfall tour .... we just love waterfalls. First, we went to the Gigit Waterfalls in the hinterland. Out of the six waterfalls in total, we only visited one because we couldn't find a way to the others. To save on the entrance fee, we secretly joined a tour group at the ticket counter - it worked and we were even kindly let in ;)

The waterfall was about 40-50m high and truly impressive. Stone towers built at the foot of the waterfall provided a beautiful photo opportunity.

Afterwards, we went back to the big supermarket from the day before to grab some lunch. Once we were refueled, we headed back to the hinterland, this time to the Sekumpul Waterfalls. Unfortunately, once again we trusted our navigation app and, well, the road became so steep that our scooter couldn't make it up anymore. Even at full throttle, we slowly rolled down the hill. It wasn't until Therry jumped off with his backpack that we were able to make some progress.... Two people plus backpacks are too much for a 125cc scooter when the road feels almost vertical. Fortunately, we still made it, and after a half-hour hike, we found the first waterfall. At 90m high, this is the tallest waterfall we've seen so far :D There was no need to swim because the omnipresent spray mist, blowing fiercely in our faces, completely drenched us.

We waded through the water for some time to reach the next triple waterfall, and this time we were the only ones there. Soon after, we started making our way back because it was still over 80km to Amed, where we are now. After two hours of exhausting driving, half of which was in the dark, we finally arrived in the small fishing village.

And the place enchanted us right from the start: on the one hand, we found an accommodation with a pool right by the sea for around 10 euros per night, on the other hand, there's a restaurant right next door, also by the sea, where you can get extremely delicious fish with vegetables and rice for 27,000 Indonesian Rupiah (2 euros). Our best meal in Indonesia so far. In addition to the low prices, the people here are also very relaxed and friendly.

Today, after sleeping in once again, we went snorkeling in two bays further down. Jakob thinks it's the best snorkeling spot we've been to on our trip. We saw Unicornfishes (about 60+ cm), a squid, Longtailed Bannerfishes, huge Boxfishes, and so much more...

We just booked our dive for tomorrow, we're going to the USAT Liberty, a 200m long shipwreck from the war. And since we don't always feel like driving around or doing something else, we're currently just lounging by the pool like normal tourists, looking forward to dinner and a beautiful sunset right by the sea.
