On Thursday, Lis and Joe went to Rottnest Island, a small island off the coast of Perth. It is mainly known for its little furry inhabitants - the Quokkas. In recent years, the phenomenon of Quokka selfies has developed here (definitely google it!). We wanted to give it a try too :-)
On Rottnest Island, you can only get around by bicycle. We wanted to cycle around the island. 23 km lay ahead of us... The route was quite hilly and we had to pedal hard. And the 3-gear bicycles were terrible!
There was a big crowd around the first Quokkas we spotted, so we kept on going. For a long time, we didn't see a single one, but then we got lucky and encountered a whole family. :-) The little guys are not shy at all and curiously observe their visitors.
But it's not that easy to get them in front of the camera! We tried to feed them with grass (which they usually eat) to get them interested, but they're not easily impressed. :-)
In the end, it worked out and we got our selfie!
After cycling 23 km, I was totally exhausted and fell straight into bed when we got back to the hostel. And I dreamed about Quokkas! ;-)
