National Gallery

Imechapishwa: 21.06.2021

Hello wonderful readers of my not so exciting blog.

As mentioned in my last post, we were at the National Art Gallery of Ireland last weekend. We actually thought it would rain on Sunday, so we wanted to (legally this time) go to the gallery. So we booked the tickets a few days in advance. Sunday morning we realized that the weather was actually too nice to just go to the gallery, but we went anyway. To at least look a little bit serious, we even all wore a blouse or a shirt. 😂

A few minutes and a bus ride later, we were at the gallery, just like a few weeks ago. This time we could walk through the gallery without a guilty conscience. Many of the artworks on display there were painted with oil paint, which I personally find very impressive. I love painting myself, but I have never dared to use oil. However, it was not only the technique of the artworks that was impressive, but also the size of some of the artworks. One of the largest measures almost 3-4m in height and 6m in length. It is hard to imagine how long someone would sit on such a giant until it is finished. But what interested me even more was the price for such a huge piece. The gallery building was already confusing last time, but this time we were even more confused and probably only found our way around thanks to the arrows on the floor. Although I have to admit that we still got lost a few times. After visiting the gallery, we decided to go to St. Stephen's Green Park, which is just a few minutes away from the gallery. The park is in the middle of the city and beautiful. With a small lake, many trees, and beautifully arranged flowers. We stayed there for a while and watched as the police officers who were walking around there took away the beer from the underage youths over and over again, drove them away from their spot, and then they would pull out new beer from some bushes and wait until the police officers were gone to go back to the exact same spot. This happened a few times. 😂 It was better than any comedy show. After the park, we went to a cafe in the city to have some coffee, which was very funny because we all got paper straws and Julia's straw became so soaked from stirring her iced coffee that she couldn't drink from it anymore. So she desperately tried to drink from the cup without a straw and squeezed it in such a strange way and then released it suddenly, causing the entire iced coffee to splash out and spread on our table. Why she did that? I have no idea. Afterwards, I simply offered her my straw. She used it as a stirring rod, so it became soaked, bent, and unusable in a few minutes. After that, I gave up hope. Drinking iced coffee is a real art.🤷🏼‍♀️

A very successful day, I would say.

Until then
