We have now arrived at the Best Western Tin Wis. Here we will spend another week right on the beach, at Mackenzie Beach. Incredibly beautiful here, even though we were greeted with rain. We are sitting on our terrace and listening to the sound of the Pacific Ocean.
Until Sunday morning, we were still on a cruise. We had another sea day through the Inside Passage, unfortunately with bad weather and a quite bumpy night.
On Sunday morning when we woke up, the MS Noordam had already docked in Vancouver. It's amazing how organized everything is on board. Check-out and luggage pick-up went smoothly and quickly. Even the entry into Canada was problem-free. No one wanted to see our passports.
The first challenge was fitting our suitcases into our small Hyundai. The back seat had to be used as well. But Matthias managed to fit everything in. Since it was raining in Vancouver, we decided to go to the outlet at the airport first. We both found something at Hilfiger and Nike. Hopefully we will be able to fit everything into our suitcases when we fly back. After all, we still need to bring smoked salmon.
At around half past two, we drove to Horseshoe to catch the ferry to Nainamo. The crossing took 1 hour and 45 minutes. In Nainamo, we went grocery shopping to be prepared for the drive to Tofino. And that turned out to be a good idea. After a short time, we were stuck in traffic. Probably because of an accident. When we finally passed the accident scene, one lane was closed by the police, but for no apparent reason for us. The drive to Tofino was an experience in itself. Through forests, past rivers and lakes. Up and down, over 50 km without a single town, without a single house. And it was getting darker and darker. In the middle of it all, there was a long construction site in the middle of nowhere. There are no traffic lights at construction sites here. Women stand there and hold stop signs in their hands, in the darkest forest, in the middle of the night.
We finally arrived at the hotel just before 10 pm. Quickly unpack our suitcases, and then we both fell asleep exhausted.
We took it easy today and slept in. After a delicious breakfast and a walk on the beautiful beach, partly in the rain, we sat down on our terrace. We also had to visit Tofino, as we unfortunately couldn't get any coins for the washing machine at the hotel, and they didn't accept bills. The shoes hanging on the power lines in the streets of Tofino surprised us, totally crazy. We went shopping at Coop and made ourselves a delicious muesli back at the hotel. I'm slowly starting to look forward to Baden cuisine again.
