28.12 - Skydiving

Imechapishwa: 29.12.2018

Since we are all a bit crazy, on the 28th we embarked on an adventurous experience. The Röschmi's and Wilsenacks headed to the headquarters of the skydivers in Swakopmund. As we filled out the registration form and signed the liability waiver, we already had a slightly uneasy feeling in our stomachs... In convoy, we drove towards the desert. Upon arrival at the base, we received a brief and painless briefing. Exiting the plane, legs under the flyer, head back and off we go. The first 3 seconds are what the guide affectionately calls the "Ohhhhh-Shit-Moment". Then relax, keep on smiling, and always give a little wave to the cameraman. It took a while for us to take off. Sven, our giant from Berlin, was the first to go up in the air. He raised his "green" thumb in the air and off he went. After about 10 minutes of waiting, we saw the first dots in the sky. We could already see Sven's smile and enthusiasm from high up. Once on the ground, his sight assured us that we had made the right decision. Now it was time for Marco and me. We found the appropriate suits and packed our bellies tightly with the gear, bidding farewell to our loved ones just to be safe. Still as calm as ever, we boarded the little yellow air moped. We sat snugly in a row, one behind the other. The tension slowly grew. At an altitude of about 4000m, the guides opened the sliding door, and before we could take another breath, off we went. One of our fellow passengers was the first to dive into the depths. Seconds later, Marco followed, and I wanted to briefly think about how insane we are, but since I didn't see my life flashing before my eyes, it seemed like our last hour hadn't come yet. No turning back - eyes open, head back, and bam, the 3 "Ohhhh-Shit-Moments" happened. There was no time to breathe, the first 30 seconds of free fall were amazing, what a great feeling!! It's hard to believe, but we could actually enjoy the view. The cameraman buzzed around us, trying to capture our excitement. When the parachute opened, there was a strong jolt, and off we went into the gliding phase. No roller coaster in the world could be cooler. The guide loosened the harness a bit, I leaned forward, and I was about to say goodbye, but thankfully I got stuck in the harness. During the steep turns, I started to feel a bit uncomfortable in my stomach. With the cheers of our companions, we landed again full of joy. Of course, our adrenaline could only be calmed down with a cool beer. After us, Jan, Ramona and Frauke were allowed to experience the skydiving adventure. Their excitement was similar to ours. Jan was naturally extremely cool until the moment of the exit. Then even our giant briefly lost his composure. Frauke, Ramona, and Jan also landed safely and full of joy. Conclusion - we were crazy, brave, and extremely proud to have experienced this adventure. Not enough for this day, our youth went to the Sound of Summer music festival at Langstrand and went full throttle again. We also ended the day at the beach. Silke.
