April 2, 2022: Pylos: Paralia Voidokilias, Paralia Chrisi Ammos
F. The world is a village! Yesterday in Olympia we met two Spaniards again, whom we had already seen in Avignon (France, #19) in November last year. They recommended the area around Pylos to us, so today we drove to Voidokilias beach. This beach is located in a drop-shaped bay, with the pointed end of the drop opening towards the sea. This bay is flanked by two hills from which you have a beautiful view of the entire region.
At first, we tried to park our van on top of the hill with the church, but the road leading up there was too steep and unpaved for us. We then went swimming in the bay for a short time and had lunch on the beach.
After lunch, we continued to the Chrisi Ammos beach. This one is not as beautiful as the previous one, but here you can park your van right by the water. Every 100 - 200 meters there was a caravan or a van on the beach. We enjoyed the sun, read a few pages, and in the evening we cooked salted potatoes in sea water. Very tasty, I can only recommend it.
The next morning, I first shoveled some loose sand away from our tires, as I had already noticed the evening before when driving up that the beach doesn't seem to be as firm as it initially looked. The first attempt to drive off the beach failed even with the sand work, and we only moved about 1 meter. However, I had already prepared plan B. First, shovel some more sand, then put some bamboo in the track, let Jenny drive, and I push the car from behind. I cannot say which of these points brought us success, but in any case, getting off the beach was quite easy.
Day 169 - Total tour 12,923 km
