On Monday, Pia, one of the Lüderitzers, went to Cape of Good Hope. Since they had a rental car and everyone else stayed at home in the gloomy rainy weather, we took the opportunity to drive down on our own.
On the way, we stopped at Simon's Town at Boulders Beach, where the many penguins are. Here, you have 2 options, either you pay 75 Rand, a little over 5€, and go directly down to the beach or you walk along the top and only see the beach from a distance. We decided to walk along the top first and see what there was to see. And even here, there were already so many penguins walking around and hardly visible on the beach, that we saved the 75 Rand and contented ourselves with what we saw from up here! Which was already quite a lot! =) The penguins are so used to people now that they are not impressed at all and just carry on with their business as usual when people walk around.
At the Cape, you park at 'Cape Point' and Lighthouse. From there, you can hike to Cape of Good Hope in a 1 1/2-hour hike. However, it was so windy that we were glad we weren't blown off the cliffs! ;) Of course, we wanted to take a photo of ourselves with the famous sign of the Cape, but of course, there was a whole busload of Japanese people, each of whom wanted their own photo with the sign! You can't take a group photo and then send it to everyone, nooooiiiiin!! The way back to the parking lot was even more exhausting because we had more headwind and mainly had to walk uphill.
I drove back home. There was a short stopover at a well-known lighthouse. But either we didn't find the right one or the right one is not that special at all... Anyway, we were not very impressed by it!
When we arrived home, we split up again and the rest of the day was doomed to chilling in the hostel since it was raining all day anyway. But it was good for Cape Town! ;) In return, the hostel staff made a homemade vegetable stew for all hostel guests!
Today, Tuesday, is a very relaxed chill day for me, so I'll just add it as a little addendum to this blog. I only went to the Muslim neighborhood 'Bo Kaap' for lunch, a neighborhood with beautifully painted houses in all colors! Otherwise, I will just relax today because tomorrow will be really exciting!! =D
