The following days on the island went similarly to the previous day, with the exception of Wednesdays through Fridays. On these days, the second-hand store on Vashon was open. The store is as big as an average Aldi store. We think the concept is great: residents donate old but well-preserved items, which are then sold gradually in the store by volunteers. The proceeds go back to the nonprofit organizations on the island.
The items were so beautiful and affordable that the women couldn't resist. This led to our backpacks bursting at the seams. Christian also found something: a compass for the kids. Although it looked more like a weapon, it served its purpose.
That was the only activity besides the walks with Stevie during those days. And that was a good thing. We realized that we missed a structured daily life and that we were pretty exhausted from the trip.
Fortunately, we were spoiled by Jeani and were able to recover well.
