Today we finally discovered the dream beach - it was only about 500m from yesterday's beach, but much quieter and therefore much more pleasant. That's most of our day so far :)
We rented two loungers under a parasol and enjoyed a few hours of wonderfully relaxed beach life! Next to us was a woman with her (almost grown-up) daughter from Italy, so we also got into conversation.
Unfortunately, we both got sunburnt, even though we applied SPF 50 sunscreen and stayed in the shade except for when we went swimming! Just now I got talked into buying an avocado cream for treating sunburn from a lady at the shopping center. But Nora is probably right when she said, "Mom, I think she fooled us." I doubt it will be effective.
I also got a local SIM card so that we can go online while we're out and about. Even if it's just to look up directions on Google Maps or call a taxi. There's free Wi-Fi in all the hotels here, but it's not as widespread as in Thailand for some reason. In Thailand, you had free access in every restaurant. And unfortunately, the reception in our hotel isn't great either. But we just extended our stay by two more nights, so we'll be staying on Langkawi until Thursday at least.
Oh, by the way, something happened at the beach today that I can tell you about. Nora had just gone to the sea with her bucket to get water when a group of Chinese/Japanese(?) people came running to the beach making a lot of noise. There was 1 man and about 8 women. Each of the women posed in the same spot in front of the water. Then they suddenly came up to me, sat down on our lounger without asking (mind you, with all our clothes on it), and each of them posed there one after the other, and then they also took a photo next to me, also without asking! As brazen as the Chinese, as eager to take photos as the Japanese.
