Asunción & our Paraguay conclusion

Imechapishwa: 20.10.2018

In the former capital of South America - now only inhabited by 7 million people - we didn't have that much luck with the weather. But it has to rain here too! Fortunately, we have the perfect hostel to spend a day without much activities. So we chill in the courtyard and have a lot of conversations with Gonzalo, a super nice Argentine who came to Paraguay due to the bad situation in his home country and now works in the hostel. In the evening, there is joyful music again :)

Asunción itself is a bit more run-down than we had imagined. Especially on Sundays, when all the shops are closed, the streets look very deserted and worn out. At least in the central part of the city where we are located. It has its own charm, but we won't extend our 2 nights here and book the bus to Resistencia, our first destination in Argentina. On the day of departure - with sun and open shops - the city already looks a bit friendlier and Jan buys his own wooden MATE cup to sip the national drinks of Paraguay and Argentina, like everyone else here :)

In total, we didn't spend that long in Paraguay (which is only slightly larger than Germany), but we still got to know a few people and they were all very friendly and helpful. Visiting our sponsored child will always be a positive memory for us!

Initially, we would have stayed longer in Paraguay, but traveling to the northern part of the country with public transportation is not that easy and going to the south would have changed our plan too much - to go to Atacama Desert via Salta. And that's where we really want to go next!
