10. Tag Sansepolcro and Città di Castello

Imechapishwa: 23.04.2024

Today, it is an 8-hour walk to Città so Castello and there is a 60 percent chance of rain. Yesterday's 30 percent chance of rain was enough for my personal development, so I decide to take the bus for my next leg.

A day in the city

The day off feels like I've been put in a corner where I'm no longer allowed to take part, especially since I've missed out on visiting Montecasale and the Capuchin monastery. Here you can see the stone bed on which Francis slept when he was here.

But I had time for the town. It has a special flair, boasts many interesting museums, the history of the arts and crafts and the special furnishings of the churches. It is unfairly neglected in the guide and also on Wikipedia. I think Sansepolcro is worth a stop. There is enough to see.

The magic word

What is the magic word when you want to reserve a room over the phone? Not "please", but "sono un pellegrino". This sentence also opens the door on all other occasions. Most of the time, a backpack and dirty hiking boots are enough for people to speak to you in a friendly manner. And you always hear the greeting: "Buon cammino".

And now finally two kilograms lighter

Fate, by the way, took me to a post office. There I checked my backpack for unimportant things and decided that I did not want to be prepared for the eventuality of having to sleep outside. Then I sent a package.

Unfortunately, in order to implement this project, I had to cause a stir in the entire post office (which was a very large one). But with "sono un pellegrino", a friendly smile and repeated weighing by an employee, I finally managed to determine 1966 grams of my excess luggage and find a corresponding box. Now the Italian post office is carrying part of the contents of my backpack to my home.
