Great Alhambra

Imechapishwa: 12.12.2023

Today we spent the second day wandering around Granada, but this time not on the Albaicin in the Moorish quarter, which I really liked, but day 2 was dedicated to THE attraction par excellence.

Christian had the foresight to book the tickets a few days in advance, and everything worked out really well.

We parked the van in the shade and then went into the exhibition relatively early, starting with Generalife, because the entrance was simply better for us upstairs.

The actual main entrance is of course different, but that's not so important here. It is VERY IMPORTANT that, in addition to the online ticket, you also have the ID with which the booking is valid. We had a specific time for the Nasrid Palace, so we were able to look around beforehand and also enjoy the free audio guide.

I have to admit that I would have liked to have stayed longer in the Alhambra with its wonderful red facade, but on the other hand, despite the winter day, it was quite crowded and there were a lot of guided tours around us. It was hardly possible to take photos without foreign objects, but that's part of it. It must be really tough in summer!

We strolled slowly, I took lots of photos of the flowers, because roses, jasmine and many other plants that were settled there by the Nasrids also bloom here in winter. There are olive trees, figs and almonds, as well as a herb garden, orchard in general and a real splendor of vegetable beds.

Then we went on to the red fortress and the heart of the Alhambra, the Nasrid Palace.

We were a little early, but were let in a little earlier. You're almost pushed through here, but that didn't dampen your enjoyment, because the architecture with the open archways, the wonderful ceilings with wood and stucco is simply beautiful.

I was impressed by the lion fountain, but it is more the overall structure that demonstrates power on the one hand, but still shows this oriental openness. I find the contrast exciting, the ornaments, whether carved or formed, are simply beautiful.

It was worth it, even if the park ticket itself was more expensive than the entrance fee thanks to a short hike. It was a wonderful experience that I didn't want to miss.
