First exploration of the city

Imechapishwa: 02.12.2016

In the first week, I walked a lot around the city and just let myself be amazed. Sometimes I should have been more careful though, often I looked in the wrong direction when crossing the streets and had to hurry up. But okay, I already knew that from Malaysia ;) I still need to get used to driving on the left. I always try to get in the car on the wrong side and as a passenger, I already feel dizzy when doing the so-called Hook Turn - Melbourne's city center is known for this traffic maneuver - from the far left lane onto streets where trams also drive, and then turn right over all the other lanes. What can I say - you should try to understand it for yourself ;)

If you go to the city center, better known as CBD Central Business District, you will inevitably pass by the beautiful yellow train station - Flinders Street Station.

Another well-known landmark here is the Eureka Tower:

Since I personally love markets so much, I immediately went to explore one of the largest markets, the Queen Victoria Market. Here you can find everything your heart desires!

This is just the view of one of the side entrances, it's simply huge there. Naddi and I were there on a Wednesday night because over the summer there are now Summer Night Markets - with street food, live music, and craft stalls. We first got stuck at a cheese stall, even though it is clear that the cheese here cannot be compared to France.

But since almost nothing can be sold here in Australia with raw milk, unfortunately, you also cannot find cheese as good as in France. There are a few, but as a lover of France, you are simply used to something else :D

The market itself is really cool, I got many small gift ideas, saw stylish clothes (too bad I don't have space in my suitcase) and ate my way through the kitchen. Converting money into food or travel? I'm already an expert ;)

Melbourne as a city cannot really be described in a few words, each suburb is a little unit in itself and that makes the whole thing incredibly colorful and diverse. I definitely plan to explore the individual neighborhoods on their own, so I won't say more about it here.

One thing is for sure: the sea is usually not far away no matter where you are, I love it:

And I've already fallen in love a little with the trams here:

This photo also shows what a colorful architectural mix there is here, here are two more examples of that:

To be continued, stay tuned :)
