The Carretera Austral first goes up a mountain through rather pampas-like landscape on an asphalt road. And on the other side, it goes back down through a rainforest on a gravel road. That's also the crazy thing here, the landscape changes so often within kilometers. This is due to the fjords where the clouds get stuck, and depending on how many fjords are in front of the mainland, more or less rain comes through.
This rainforest is protected by a national park.
The highlight is the hike through the rainforest to a hanging glacier. Yes, you heard right, a glacier in the rainforest, madness, that only exists in Chile!
Finally, a cozy hike (2 hours) through the beautiful rainforest, instead of 10-hour hikes going up 1000 meters in altitude. We were amazed the entire time. Jonas took the opportunity to test how suitable the vines are for playing Tarzan.
We slept with a view of a fjord where two dolphins swam by in the evening and a seal swam by in the morning.
The next day, we treated ourselves to a day off in hot springs, with a view of a fjord where seals and dolphins were also present. Now we can definitely say that we are cleaner than ever!
