We explore Koh Phangan

Imechapishwa: 16.01.2019

When we wake up the day after the storm, the sun is actually shining again! Since we had actually expected three days of rainy weather, we are even more happy and decide to explore the island by scooter.

Thongsala, the capital of the island, doesn't make a very exciting impression on us as we pass through, so we decide to continue north to the bays.

Koh Ma is a small uninhabited island that can be reached on foot via a sandbar at low tide. Here we have lunch and take a little walk on the beach.

To reach the second bay, located at Thong Nai Pan, we need to drive all the way back to get to the other road that leads north again. In the middle of the island there are high mountains, which makes it difficult to cross and get around. It takes us over an hour to cover a distance of just a few kilometers in a straight line. But we're on vacation, and besides, we're enjoying the sunshine and the lack of wind!

The road gets steeper and winds up and down the mountains. But our scooter is obedient and manages all the uphill sections without complaint.

Finally, we reach the beach, which is probably one of the most beautiful on the whole island. We have to come back here!

We visit some resorts to see if they meet the Jakob and Manu quality seal and if we want to come back here. In between, we drink a fresh coconut and a watermelon-pineapple shake on the beach.

Filled with new impressions and a bit tired, we come home, where we sit down for dinner at the pizza place around the corner. And what a pizza place it is! Topped with Parma ham and Parmesan, with a little truffle oil on top, this was probably the best pizza we've ever had in Southeast Asia!

The next day we head to Ban Tai, the secluded bay where the Sanctuary is located. Here we will relax and do yoga for the next few days.

We ride in the back of a jeep on a very adventurous road through the mountains, and after a good half hour, we are happy to have arrived in one piece!

After looking at a few bungalows, we decide to stay at Why Nam Beach. However, there is only a shared room available, which is right by the sea and even has an open front! Well, then we'll just let the waves lull us to sleep...

Oh no! The waves are so loud that we are awake during the night more than we are sleeping... Luckily, we can move to a bungalow higher up the hill the next day, where it is quieter.

Every morning at 8 o'clock we go over to the Sanctuary to do yoga with Peter, then we really deserve breakfast! The rest of the day we spend on the beach, swimming in the sea and in our little lagoon.

After three very relaxing days, it's time to say goodbye to our little paradise and head to the main town of the island, Thong Sala.

After being able to eat exclusively in expensive restaurants for the past few days, we are looking forward to the many street food stalls we can find here. In addition to grilled skewers, we also find a lot of freshly squeezed juices and good mango sticky rice.

So that we can continue to have a bit of a beach feeling, we stay in a beach resort with its own infinity pool facing the sea. That helps us to compensate a little for the fact that the beach here is nowhere near as beautiful as at Why Nam Beach.

Here we also find the local market where all the Thais go to buy their groceries.

The next day we visit Alice, Philipp and Samuel in Thong Nai Pan. The three have rented a villa with its own pool in the middle of the jungle and have invited us.

Our attempt to travel to Thong Nai Pan ourselves... it remained an attempt. The island is more suitable for stronger engines ;)

The villa is incredible!! We enjoyed our time there with the three of them, splashing around, chatting, and feasting!!

Straight from the bedroom into the pool!!!

After two beach visits together and a night together, the five of us drive back to Thong Sala to stroll around and eat street food.

The next day, we take the ferry and bus to Bangkok.

Baba Beach, sun, and fresh air - off to the urban jungle!
