On my birthday we continued to Harrisonburg, with a stopover in Charlottesville, where we actually wanted to eat cheesecake.
Arriving in Charlottesville, we had to realize that there was a festival and it was a bit difficult to get to the parking garage as many roads were closed.
The next challenge was finding a cheesecake - we didn't find one. But the hazelnut chocolate pie was a very good compensation. After that, we walked around the city, which was quite beautiful, and the many street musicians added to the atmosphere. (Even though my mood wasn't great here, too many people. 😉)
Next stop was Harrisonburg, at Rachel's and our Airbnb accommodation. A typical American cottage. Decorated with lots of love. I still have to find out why there is another glass door in front of the entrance door.
In the evening we went for Indian food. I love eating Indian food outside of Germany. It tastes different every time but it's always delicious - just like in this case.
We didn't do much more. That's enough. At a certain age, you can take it easy. 😁
For our 10th day, Shenandoah National Park was on the list. A well-maintained 160 km road along a ridge with various viewpoints and hiking trails.
Point 1: once again, I realized that I am an absolute flatland Tyrolean and hiking does not come on my list of favorite activities.
Point 2: unfortunately, it's still early spring and many trees are still quite bare.
Point 3: the view makes up for everything. We actually didn't see any squirrels today, but we saw many birds, which we suspect are eagles.
Point 4: it's springtime and why is it 30 degrees here? 🥵
In the evening, we went to Taco Bell and I am heavily in favor of introducing this fast food chain in Germany. Really delicious.
Day 11 is a travel day to Roanoke (pronounced 'Rounouk'). It went over the Blue Ridge Parkway.🤫🌳⛰️
